Community Action

CASP (Children's Activities and Support Programme) & Community action - Cookery Project

Community Action is a charitable organisation, limited by guarantee, which has been in existence since 1968, working for 'The future with young people'. It has a long established reputation in working with youth and community groups in Northern Devon including those who are disadvantaged. Previous projects have included establishing a provision for homeless young people, providing services to integrate disaffected young people into the community and working with excluded individuals including young offenders.

The project will provide cookery sessions, using community facilities in the targeted areas, that include finance and meal planning and practical cooking skilles to improve confidence and deliver positive healthy eating messages.

the structured sessions will be delivered to targeted young people and families.  it will link with community action's allotment and will seek additional available plots within the targeted communities to promote food awareness and physical activity.  There is a high level of low level mental health within those referred to the services offered by CASP.

The project will be delivered on an outreach basis to best fit the needs of an extremely rural community where services are very limited.

The project will deliver:

  • Improved Mental Health
    • Access to gardening activities
    • Confidence building through the acquisition of skills
