Well-being  -  Step by Step

Our project is built on the knowledge and understanding gained through the Eatsome and LEAPActive projects which led to the development of the Health Inequalities LAA target.

Step by Step aims to take a community centered approach by working with community groups to reduce health inequalities. Our grant will be used to fund two Community Wellbeing Workers who will be appointed to provide one-to-one support for people to empower and encourage participants to make changes in their lifestyles.

Our project will:

  • Promote the engagement of local people through community development and holistic foundation intervention approach
  • Empower local communities through personal confidence to take their health/wellbeing as a personal responsibility engendering a desire to change

Our workers will support the work of Eatsome and LEAPActive by providing greater outreach community work and delivering support through personal behaviour change.

The key aim of the project is to liaise with service providers to ensure the delivery of services is relevant, appropriate and accessible to local communities.

People who will benefit from the project will include:

  • those from deprived,  disadvantaged and socially excluded communities
  • low income families
  • unemployed people
  • people with low level mental ill health such as depression and stress
  • people with low levels of confidence and self-esteem
  • people with overweight problems

We anticipate that we will work with 40 community groups (average 8 members) and specifically target work with 200 direct beneficiaries, as well as 120 Volunteer Health Champions.
