Carers Link network The Carers Link Network is a group of voluntary organisations working together to identify carers in Devon. Carers can join their local Carers Link in order to access support and receive up-to-date information and newsletters and to have their views heard on service development and reviews. (Key Contact: Matthew Byrne)
Teignbridge Carers Link
The Teignbridge Carers Link is based at Westbank and has a membership of over 700 carers who receive regular information about support groups and service developments and will have the opportunity to have their say about these. Link members are also entitled to join their local Emergency Response Card Scheme which brings help and support to the person they care for should something happen to them while they are away from home. Membership of both schemes is free and confidential. Members are also entitled to a free benefits check, direct access to the Devon-wide Take-a-Break and Flexible Grant schemes and a free subscription to the Devon Link magazine.
Flexible Breaks Grants scheme
The scheme provides small grants for carers to enable them to have a break from their caring responsibilities. The grants are only available to members of the Carers Link Network (see above)
Take a Break scheme
Take a Break is a flexible, home-based sitting service for carers. The service is only available to members of the Carers Link Network (see above). If you would like to access the Take a Break Scheme please call direct on 01392 823315 or 08456 431341 (calls to this number are charged at local rates).
Volunteer Sitting Service (available to patients of 6 Exeter Surgeries, the Westbank Practice and GP surgeries in Teignmouth, Shaldon and Bishopsteignton)
If you are the main carer for somebody (eg. a relative or a friend), we may be able to find a volunteer to sit with the person you care for on a regular basis, to give you a break – so that you can maybe do some shopping or visit a friend. This can be arranged on a regular basis. Referrals need to come from either a medical professional or from Social Services. We are unable to provide personal care as part of this service – please refer to Take a Break.
