Time for Life

Time for life is a new project being run in partnership with Age Concern Devon and Upstream, Mid Devon and is Devon wide. Westbank is co-ordinating the Teignbridge area.

Time for Life is a personally tailored; goal orientated service for people aged 50 years and over (and who are able to consent to the service) aimed at tackling social isolation.

People who are eligible for the service will be experiencing some kind of recent life change, loss or down turn in life, for example bereavement, illness, disability, sensory impairment; stress concerned with daily living, for example financial management.

The community mentoring service is time limited to 3 months with the individual following initial assessment.

The community mentor's role will be to:

  • help the individual develop a positive sense of social identity and self esteem;
  • help the individual access services and activities which match their individual needs, facilitating them to design these activities where necessary and feasible;
  • assist the individual with integration into their local community, which will include encouraging the community to develop its capacity to support its vulnerable members;
  • assist in maintaining life time interests and in achieving lifetime ambitions to do new things;
  • help the individual to find an interest in new things where they do not as yet feel an interest and cannot decide what they would enjoy doing;
  • agree an action plan and goals with each person.
