Participants, their carers and volunteers from the Westbank Memory Cafés visited Exeter Cathedral to take part in Stretch a sound, touch and dance installation.

Stretch, created by Sophia Clist and Nick Burge, is a screen made of hundreds of strands of fine elastic stretching across a space.  During Art Week Exeter, Stretch was installed across the nave of Exeter Cathedral using 12 miles of elastic; participants were invited to interact with the elastic.

At first the group seemed quite unsure about the elastic wall in front of them, but in no time at all they were exploring the feel and movement of Stretch.  This involved them dancing through it, falling into it, touching and making sounds across the elastic.

Vicky Hutchinson, Memory Café Coordinator said:

It was a lovely opportunity for everyone to get involved in something so unusual and that they wouldn't usually get to do at a Memory Café.  It was a great morning for all those involved.

Chloe Axford from BBC Spotlight South West joined the session, the feature aired on 17th May 2017.
