Introduction

Westbank is a registered charity established in 1986 and became company limited by guarantee in 2007.  The organisation was originally set up to provide practical and emotional support to people in the villages along the west bank of the River Exe.  The organization now works with communities and individuals across Devon. Westbank’s Community Care and Healthy Living Centre premises are in Exminster The Centre includes a very innovative gym with disabled access equipment, after school and holiday club for children, gymnastics club, conference and meeting facilities and a community café.

Devon Carers is one of the largest and most successful carer’s services in the UK, providing information and support to 20,000 carers of all ages, including:

  • Awareness-raising and identification of carers of all ages
  • A countywide helpline, providing easy access to information and support
  • A team of support staff facilitating drop-in sessions, carers support groups, school-based activities and time-limited one-to-one support

 Overall Job Purpose

  • Day to day line management and support of a local team of Carer Support Officers (CSO’s) and Peer Support Officers (PSO’s) in Mid Devon, ensuring all staff effectively deliver the contracted services for carers,
  • Contribute to, and have oversight of best practice in relation to Carers assessments (Health and Wellbeing Checks) and Carers Support Plans,
  • Contribute to overall management and development of practice and services for carers in Devon,
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with a range of voluntary and statutory services for the benefit of carers.

Shortlisting Criteria:

  • Experience in managing staff, motivating teams and recruiting new staff members
  • Experience of providing one-to-one advice or support in a similar/relevant role
  • An empathy with carers and volunteers and an understanding of their needs
  • Excellent administration, organisational, record keeping and report writing skills
  • Understanding of legislation and principles of GDPR (data protection)
  • Car owner/driver (or otherwise able to satisfy with appropriate adjustments, requirements for travel associated with the role)
  • Ability to assess information, apply eligibility criteria, and plan appropriate actions and support to carers at risk of developing or who have eligible needs
  • Understanding of principles of confidentiality and equal opportunities
