Description of activity:

As the Covid-19 lockdown eases slightly Westbank are aware that many of our more isolated and or vulnerable clients need mental and physical stimulation in a small group.  The Exminster day centre room will be used to provide a Social Group activities such as reminiscence, arts & crafts, bingo & seated exercise.  If necessary separate activity risk assessments will be completed.

LA PPE Guidance for Staff Issue 5 V45 11.6.20 FINAL DCC- available from Westbank.

This allows a group of up to 5 singles (or 3 singles and 2 couples from the same household) to meet as a social group for quiet activities which stimulate the mind and exercise the body.

All users will be advised of the following:

Before attending clients will be contacted and asked if they are displaying coronavirus symptoms of a new and continuous cough, a high temperature or an unusual loss of taste or smell. If they have these symptoms they will be asked to not attend the group and contact 119 for advice on how to get a test. 

  • Clients will be asked to bring their own face coverings with them for use at times during the day.
  • Clients will arrive at the second door entrance to the day centre and carers will be unable to enter, staff will be at the door to greet the clients and sign them in. Clients will exit through the main day centre entrance door.  This door will be controlled by the Day Centre Staff. There will be clear signage on the doors.
  • Clients will have their temperature taken using a non touch forehead thermometer upon arrival.
  • Clients/staff will be asked to sanitise their hands upon arrival.
  • Clients are to be advised and managed so they do not shout or raise their voices which can spread the virus. At the time of writing singing or other raised voice activities are not permitted.
  • Windows and doors will be opened to create a through draft.
  • Clients chairs/tables will be set to allow 2 meter social distancing (SD), they will not be required to wear face coverings at 2m, but any less than that a face covering will be required
  • Staff will be required to wear a face covering at all times in the setting.
  • A register of all clients will be kept for 21 days to assist with the Governments Track & Trace system if needed.
  • Clients will be reminded to wash/sanitise their hands at regular intervals and not touch their face.
  • Clients will have individual trays with the days activity equipment and stationary pack provided to prevent shared resources and equipment and reduce the spread of infection.
  • Whilst walking to the toilet clients will be asked to wear their face coverings whilst in the coriridor area, anyone will be asked to give clear passage to the client over the walkway.
  • After a client has used the toilet Day Centre staff will wipe down the shared touch surfaces such as light switch, cistern handle, toilet seat, tap heads, soap dispenser and door handles (both sides) with disinfectant spray and hand towels.
  • During lunchtimes food will be served to clients with the staff using a face covering, good hand hygiene and gloves as necessary. The dirty crockery will be washed in dishwasher as usual, washing hands with soap and water afterwards.
  • At the end of the day all touch surfaces to be wiped down, eg: tables, chairs, door handles. There are enough day centre armchairs to rotate so that at the end of the day they will be rotated ready for the next group on the following day.
