Young Carers Ambassador and Exeter Chiefs player Ollie Devoto went from rugby to ultimate frisbee with a group of young carers at St Peter's Church of England Aided School

Devon Young Carers Ambassadors Ollie DeVoto, joined a group of young carers at St Peter’s in Exeter; the Exeter Chiefs player was put to the test in a variety of adrenalin pumping games including ultimate frisbee and netball.

Hannah McNamara, Devon Young Carers Lead Practitioner, said 

“All the young carers had a great time talking to Ollie and asking him questions. Ollie even managed to persuade two school football players to have a go at rugby.”

“By visiting the schools to meet with and talk to young carers and join in activities Ollie is making a huge difference in raising awareness. These sessions also give the young carers time out from their school day and amazing memories. One parent contacted me afterwards and said their young carer went home with a huge smile on his face.”

“We had pizza, cake and chocolate then went outside to play ultimate frisbee and catch. I’m not quite sure how it happened but Ollie’s team won!.”

Sarah Brame, Intervention Support Officer, St Peter’s C of E Aided School said “This session with Ollie was such a success for the young carers who attended.  They all thoroughly enjoyed it and it was lovely to see kids who lack confidence coming out of their shells and joining in so enthusiastically.”

This schools session with Ollie is one of a few which are being arranged across Exeter, it is hoped more can be planned in across the county over the coming months.
