Introduction Devon Carers is one of the largest and most successful carer’s services in the UK, giving information, support and short breaks to more than 18,000 carers of all ages. Devon Carers is the focus for the delivery of a number of services for carers of all ages across Devon. These include:

  • Awareness raising and identification of carers of all ages.
  • A countywide helpline, providing easy access to information and support.
  • A team of support staff facilitating drop-in sessions, carers support groups, school-based activities and time-limited one-to-one support.

Carers+ consortium members and delivery partners employ local staff to deliver the work of Devon Carers, across Devon, as part of an integrated service.  As part of our preparation for the implementation of the Care Act in Devon we are looking to add to our team of staff providing support to carers, by telephone and face-to-face, as we develop a new three-tier service.

Shortlisting Criteria:

  • Experience of providing information, advice or support in a similar customer facing role
  • Good knowledge/understanding of carers and their issues
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to listen and question effectively and adapt style to suit situation
  • Excellent interpersonal, empathy and rapport building skills with ability to deal with sensitive, highly personal and confidential information in a tactful manner to ensure handled appropriately
  • Good keyboard and IT skills, including use of MS Office packages
  • Good knowledge/understanding of health and social care services/provision.
  • Positive and flexible approach to working on a helpline
  • Ability to work to deadlines and with a high attention to detail
