Young Carers Support Worker - Southern Devon Rate of pay: £9,398.74 (£18,797.48 FTE) Hours per week: 18.5 hours Location: Ivybridge Due to the newly commissioned 5 year contract for Young Carers Devon we have an exciting opportunity for a Support Worker to join our team in Southern Devon. Our Young Carers team support young people who help look after a relative with a disability, illness, mental health condition, or drug or alcohol problem. They do this in a variety of ways including: School visits and assembly’s - to tell pupils about being a Young Carer and the support that is available. Our team also meet with carers at school providing them with time to talk with someone who understands what life can be like for them. Information – using experience and knowledge about what life can be like for Young Carers to provide them with some of the best information available. Assessment – this is a chance for carers to chat with one of our Young Carers Support Workers about how life is for them and how their caring role affects other parts of their life. After this they create an action plan to ensure the young person is able to identify and achieve their goals. Advice – specific to each individual situation using online links, access to leaflets or books or sometimes even helping make an appointment with another service. Trips, Drop-ins and Activities – from regular clubs to one-off trips, this is an opportunity to spend time with other Young Carers – a chance to make friends with others in similar situations as well as providing a much needed break from the caring role.
