How to set up a Facebook Birthday Fundraiser: A Step-By-Step Guide

A Facebook fundraiser posted to your timeline lets your friends and family know that your birthday wish this year is to help support people across Devon to improve their health and wellbeing.

We’d love to share your special day with you and thank you in advance for thinking of us.

How to set up your Fundraiser

Firstly, you will need to have your birthday (date rather than just year) listed in your Facebook profile to be prompted to set up a fundraiser. If you do not want to have your birthday listed, you can manually set up the Birthday fundraiser by CLICKING HERE.

About 10 days before your birthday, Facebook will prompt you to set up a birthday fundraiser. Ideally, you don’t want to do this just yet, it’s a little bit early – the best time is in the morning, the day before your birthday.

Facebook should prompt you again on the day before your birthday to set up a fundraiser campaign. If they miss you, follow the steps in the box below.

  1. Click Fundraisers in the left menu of your News Feed or CLICK HERE.
  2. Click Raise Money.
  3. Select Nonprofit/Charity. – Scroll through to find, or search for Westbank Community Health & Care
  4. Select your chosen cause – we are listed as Westbank Community Health & Care.
  5. Choose how much you’d like to raise (you are not limited by this figure!)
  6. Decide when you’d like your birthday fundraiser to end (it will start as soon as you finish this process) it could be on your birthday, or maybe a few days or so after (there are always a few belated birthday messages so often best to finish your fundraiser a few days after your birthday!)
  7. Give your fundraiser a title. Facebook will suggest a Fundraiser for Westbank Health & Care, but it could personalise it to ‘Helen’s Birthday Fundraiser for Westbank Community Health & Care.
  8. Then add a short explanation of why you are fundraising. Facebook will suggest something for you that you can adapt, keep or replace. We’ve given a couple of examples below.
  9. You’ll then have the opportunity to choose the photo you would like to use. It will be defaulted to the current Facebook cover image on the Westbank Facebook page, you can use this, add your own or use one of the suggested ones.
  10. Then click ‘Create’ and your fundraiser will go live on your own Facebook page

That’s it! All you have to do is share it with your friends and connections. When your fundraiser ends, you don’t have to do anything at all – Westbank will receive the funds you have raised without you needing to do anything. However, you might like to drop your friend a note to thank them for their generosity.
