Neighbourhood Friends

Neighbourhood Friends ethos is very much ‘can do’, with all requests for help considered, no matter how unusual!

Neighbourhood Friends is available across all areas served by the Royal Devon and Exeter acute and Community Hospitals in Exeter, East and Mid Devon.

Our staff and team of extraordinary volunteers support people aged 18 and over who need extra support to prevent admission to hospital or who may need help settling back at home after a stay in hospital.

Our dedicated and friendly team of volunteers assist with:

  • Transport home from hospital and to medical and rehabilitation appointments
  • Shopping
  • Collecting prescriptions or equipment
  • Fitting key safes / moving furniture to make way for hospital beds
  • Connecting to community services and activities
“It’s this kind of practical help that makes a valuable addition to the support provided by health and care professionals. It can make such a difference to a person, giving them the confidence to maintain their independence at home.”

Referrals can only be made by Health and Care Professionals. The referral line is open Monday to Friday 9am to 4.30pm. To make a referral please contact the Neighbourhood Friends team on:

t: 01392 823690 or e: [email protected]

Westbank Neighbourhood Friends volunteers were awarded The Queens Award on 2nd June 2021.
