The Rt Hon Matt Hancock MP visited Budleigh Hub

The Rt Hon Matt Hancock MP, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, visited Budleigh Health and Wellbeing Hub on Wednesday 26th September to see first-hand how this innovative partnership project is meeting the needs of the local community.

Mary Nisbett, Westbank Community Health and Care Chief Executive welcomed The Rt Hon Matt Hancock MP to Budleigh Hub, he was then introduced to all guests including Matthew Byrne, Westbank Chief Executive (incoming), David Evans, Budleigh Salterton League of Friends and Richard Mejzner, Budleigh Salterton Medical Practice GP and The Rt Hon Sir Hugo Swire MP who accompanied him throughout the visit.

Budleigh Salterton Community Hospital closed its doors over four years ago. After an extensive period of renovation, the existing Community Hospital was transformed into a vibrant community health and wellbeing hub providing a range of services to the communities of Woodbury, Exmouth and Budleigh.

The Rt Hon Matt Hancock with the table tennis group Matt Hancock MP had the opportunity to take a tour around Budleigh Hub to find out more about how services are delivered – meeting with services users in the day centre, learning about dinosaurs in the nursery and participating in a game of table tennis.

Service providers at the Hub shared their experience of this innovative approach to delivery, working with each other to offer intergenerational care between the nursery and day centre; throughout the Hub providers work together to cross-refer clients to ensure users receive the best possible service within the heart of their community.

Matt Hancock MP said

“This amazing Hub brings together general practice, NHS clinics, podiatry and physiotherapy alongside local charities and social enterprises including Westbank, Carousel Nursery, Age Concern Budleigh and Launchpad.

“This is a real example of the direction the NHS could move towards in the future; with groups working Carole Brown, Director Launchpad, The Rt Hon Matt Hancock MP, Mary Nisbett Westbank Chief Executive together to create thriving spaces which provide services based on the needs of the local community.
He continued “I’ve been really inspired by my visit to Budleigh Hub today”.

All walks are led by our fully trained Volunteer Walk Leaders.
