About my role at Westbank

I recently joined the Board and I am looking forward to working with my fellow trustees and Westbank team.

My standout career moments

I am currently the Community Funding Advisor for Torbay Communities.  Previously I was Chief Executive Officer for Exeter Community Initiatives a charity helping people facing disadvantage, homelessness and inequality. I worked for Play England managing their national programmes funded by the Cabinet Office, Department of Education and Department of Health promoting community involvement children’s play. In the 1980’s and 90’s I was a playworker on adventure playgrounds in Exeter, Cambridge, Wakefield and York. If you can survive that, you can survive anything.

My values

Voluntary and community organisations like Westbank play an important role in a caring and compassionate society. My experience of working in the play sector has given me a strong commitment to the agency of individuals and communities to make a difference in their own lives. I am impressed by the commitment of the trustees and staff team at Westbank to supporting others, treating people with respect and integrity.

Personal interests

In 2022 I was elected by members to the Exeter City FC Supporters Trust Board. I still play football, mostly these days the walking variety, representing Exeter Strollers in the Devon FA Over 50’s league. I can tell you there is no better feeling than scoring against Plymouth Argyle at whatever level! I enjoy local history, maps, hedge laying and sea swimming when I can.
