Background Expand Westbank Community Health and Care is a charity with a long-established history of supporting communities – has worked in close partnership with the NEW Devon Clinical Commissioning Group, The Budleigh Hospital League of Friends, Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust, NHS Property Services and others to bring the Budleigh Salterton Hub into existence. The project has been four years in the making and is recognised widely as a leading example of community-led innovation within health and wellbeing provision. Westbank is the head leaseholder for the Budleigh Salterton Hub and is responsible for the oversight of the project and running and maintaining of the facility. Westbank now warmly invites you to submit an expression of interest for space at the hub. We welcome one-off bookings, short term lets or longer-term fixed bookings. All short and long term arrangements will be done by way of an agreement between the tenant and Westbank. The way the hub works is through integration and innovation. The building provides a space within which all services in and around the hub can work together towards one common purpose: to improve and maintain health and wellbeing for all. We aim to provide the WEB (Woodbury, Exmouth and Budleigh) communities with a truly holistic health and wellbeing service. The space simply provides the canvas onto which the ideas, creativity and knowledge of a range of providers can be applied. All tenants within the hub will get to know what each other is able to offer and how that fits into the overall purpose of the Hub. This will mean that people looking for support can access what they need when they most need it and in a way that works for them. Please email [email protected] for further information

The highlights of the year are here for all to see. But the impact our staff and volunteers have – on the health and wellbeing of so many people – is hard to comprehend. The Rt Hon Matt Hancock MP visited Budleigh Hub Expand The Rt Hon Matt Hancock MP, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, visited Budleigh Health and Wellbeing Hub on Wednesday 26th September to see first-hand how this innovative partnership project is meeting the needs of the local community. Mary Nisbett, Westbank Community Health and Care Chief Executive welcomed The Rt Hon Matt Hancock MP to Budleigh Hub, he was then introduced to all guests including Matthew Byrne, Westbank Chief Executive (incoming), David Evans, Budleigh Salterton League of Friends and Richard Mejzner, Budleigh Salterton Medical Practice GP and The Rt Hon Sir Hugo Swire MP who accompanied him throughout the visit. Budleigh Salterton Community Hospital closed its doors over four years ago. After an extensive period of renovation, the existing Community Hospital was transformed into a vibrant community health and wellbeing hub providing a range of services to the communities of Woodbury, Exmouth and Budleigh. Matt Hancock MP had the opportunity to take a tour around Budleigh Hub to find out more about how services are delivered – meeting with services users in the day centre, learning about dinosaurs in the nursery and participating in a game of table tennis. Service providers at the Hub shared their experience of this innovative approach to delivery, working with each other to offer intergenerational care between the nursery and day centre; throughout the Hub providers work together to cross-refer clients to ensure users receive the best possible service within the heart of their community. Matt Hancock MP said “This amazing Hub brings together general practice, NHS clinics, podiatry and physiotherapy alongside local charities and social enterprises including Westbank, Carousel Nursery, Age Concern Budleigh and Launchpad. “This is a real example of the direction the NHS could move towards in the future; with groups working together to create thriving spaces which provide services based on the needs of the local community. He continued “I’ve been really inspired by my visit to Budleigh Hub today”. Mary Nisbett, Westbank Chief Executive said “It was a pleasure to be able to demonstrate to Matt Hancock what can be achieved when a whole community works together” Photo credit: Peter Bowler

Budleigh Hub Welcomes Visitors Expand After an extensive period of renovation Budleigh Salterton Community Hospital has been transformed into a vibrant community health and wellbeing hub. The renovation of the Budleigh Salterton Hub has been made possible due to the financial contribution from the Budleigh Salterton League of Friends, it is with thanks to them and their tireless fundraising efforts Westbank Community Health and Care and partners are now able to welcome visitors. Mary Nisbett, Westbank Chief Executive said: “Westbank, along with partners who have worked on this project for over four years, are all delighted to see the Budleigh Hub open. Services delivered will focus on preventing people from becoming unwell, reducing loneliness and isolation and provide the local community with a health and wellbeing hub to be proud of”. The Budleigh Hub is based on the 30-year success of Westbank Community Health and Care, to promote and improve the health and wellbeing of people in the local community by providing a range of support in response to their needs. The Hub has started offering services for the youngest to the oldest with locally-based Carousel Nursery providing childcare support for 0 – 5 year olds, and Age Concern Budleigh Salterton supporting older people from the local community in the day care centre. Westbank Annual Review 2017 - 2018 Expand I don’t think anyone who attended the initial meeting at Starcross Surgery in 1986 to explore the possibility of setting up a volunteer scheme to support the local community would have ever imagined that the development of Westbank would be such an amazing success, and that the organisation would make such an enormous contribution to patients and their carers across the whole country. This report highlights the wide range of activity that is going on both locally and, through the National Diabetes Prevention Programme, across the country.
