About my role at Westbank

I am the newest trustee to join Westbank and with my background in journalism, PR and marketing, my mission is to help spread the word about this fantastic, community charity.

My standout career moments

Spending 18 months as a semi-professional speedway rider; playing in a band which featured in three Radio 1 sessions and released an album and two singles; as a journalist … interviewing Sir Cliff Richard in a church in Hull; breaking the exclusive story about Gary Linker’s plans to retire from football to take up presenting (whatever happened to him?!); being told to go away in no uncertain terms by King (then Prince) Charles; winning several industry awards, including Newspaper of the Year; working with Dragon’s Den star Deborah Meaden on a child protection campaign; editing the Express & Echo when it was still a daily newspaper; helping to expose a charity conman who was subsequently jailed; after journalism … launching my own PR and marketing company which grew to a team of 14 before I sold my share; building a stable of ten (news/features) websites and most recently creating an eco clothing brand with my family.

My values

Simple - work hard, be kind and believe in yourself.

Personal interests

I love cooking and spend hours in the kitchen creating new dishes - I‘m particularly passionate about Spanish cuisine.

Sea swimming at all times of the year. The family recently completed a charity challenge in which we swam in the sea, every month, for a year, without wetsuits and wearing fancy dress!

Walking, especially along the South West Coast Path.

Theatre, especially musicals. Don’t tell anyone!

Travel. Whether it’s exploring the UK or further afield a trip is never too distant in our diaries.

Listening to podcasts - mostly business or biographies.

Reading newspapers and magazines. Ink is still in my blood.
